Context: Whether or not a fixed or traveling matte is used, a shot that has been composed from the material in several different shots - or pre-print materials - is called a composite. (A composite print is one that has both picture and sound.) The alignment of its visual elements must be absolutely precise; otherwise one will see a matte line between them.
