Ghost image Glass shot Glow pass

n.phr.

Subject Field: Cinematography

The glass shot involves the application of a portion of a scene, either by painting or photographically, to a sheet of plate glass, which is then placed in front of the camera so that the image oil the glass blends with and forms a part of the total scene. If the camera is to be panned in a glass shot, the glass must be large enough to contain the entire pan, and the camera must be mounted so that pivot point of the pan coincides exactly with the nodal point of the lens.

Context: Percy Day started making glass shots in England in 1918, but the job fell through, so he went to Paris to work. One day he was asked to do a glass shot in the center of Paris and, of course, he couldn't stick up a glass there.
