Context: For The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), Jack Arnold had his camera crew set up 250 feet away from actor Grant Williams in order to have him appear small in comparison to the footage of a spider on a window ledge set. When they were ready to film, Arnold's cameraman would take film negatives showing the spider and use it like an incamera matte to align Grant with the other footage.
