noun

Subject Field: Cinematography
Synonym of
Slow motion
Context: One optical effect technique which does not require the use of screens or mirrors is slow motion (overcranking) and accelerated (undercranking) motion filming. When a camera films at a faster than normal speed, but is projected at normal speed, the action look slower than normal. Filmmakers often use this technique in an artistic attempt to stress a key moment in a film like a death scene, a great feat of athleticism, or possibly a romantic kiss.
