Context: Zooms can easily appear self-conscious, as the effect of zooming does not reflect human experience. If a visitor to an art gallery is attracted to a particular painting, then he walks towards it: the cinematic equivalent of a track in, not a zoom in. Nevertheless, in spite of purist arguments, there is no doubt that the zoom lens is a vital tool in efficient shooting.
